What Is Concrete Core Drilling?

Core drilling creates openings in concrete ceilings, barrier walls and floor slabs to install electrical or plumbing lines, HVAC systems and communication cabling. The concrete drill has a circular head and a diamond-tipped blade that creates a hole, producing precise, circular-diameter cuts in concrete structures.

Our Concrete Drilling Services

We’ve listed some concrete core drilling services and their best practices across various industries:

  • Plumbing and floor drains: We use core drilling in plumbing to install new pipes and provide easy access for repairs without disrupting the surrounding concrete. This approach allows drains to be placed in the desired locations in residential garages and basements. Core drilling also creates vent pipe and waste line openings for proper plumbing system ventilation.
  • Walls, concrete floors, and ceilings: Core drilling is used in construction and renovation projects to create holes for installing cabling and lines through walls, ceilings and floors.
  • HVAC openings: Our core drilling experts create concrete openings to install ductwork and access points to HVAC units. They also create holes for supply and return vents in buildings to improve HVAC ventilation. Maintenance workers can easily access HVAC ductwork and components for inspections and repairs with these openings.
  • Handrail and anchor holes: We’ll use effective core drilling techniques to create holes into which handrails can be anchored. This approach creates precise and smooth-edged holes, ensuring the handrails are aligned correctly and look visually appealing.
  • Aggregate analysis: Core drilling allows us to analyze concrete aggregates accurately by collecting samples from various depths and areas. Inspections of the size, texture, shape, chemical and mineral composition of aggregates are key to analyzing their strength and quality and predicting how they will perform in different concrete applications.
  • Materials sample and analysis: Besides aggregate sampling, core drilling allows us to extract other core materials, including soil, rock and asphalt. These are analyzed for their properties and characteristics, providing researchers insight into subsurface conditions, such as the different soil types and mineral content.
  • Electrical and communication services: We’ll make holes to install ducts and conduits that serve as pathways to route your electrical and communication services, allowing you to run cables and fiber optic communication lines throughout the building. Using core drilling, we’ll install electrical fixtures such as boxes and panels that house the cables and conduits for a comprehensive solution.
